What Is Our Polypropylene CNC Service?

At Istar Machining, we turn tough plastic called polypropylene (PP) into exactly the parts you need. Our machines cut the plastic with super high accuracy to make parts for many different jobs. If you need parts that can handle chemicals, won’t break easily, and don’t cost too much, our service is perfect for you!

We use big computer-controlled machines (called CNC machines) to cut the plastic into the exact shape you want. These machines are so exact they can make parts as small as a penny or as big as a car door!

Types of Polypropylene We Use

We work with different kinds of polypropylene to match what you need:

  • Homopolymer PP – Very stiff and good with chemicals
  • Copolymer PP – Stronger when cold and doesn’t break as easily
  • Glass-Filled PP – Has tiny glass fibers inside to make it super strong (20% glass)

These materials can be made into parts up to 48 inches long, 24 inches wide, and 12 inches tall. If you need something bigger, just ask us! We can make that happen too.

Why Pick Polypropylene for Your Parts?

Polypropylene is awesome for many reasons:

  1. Fights Off Chemicals – It won’t get damaged by acids, cleaning products, or oils
  2. Super Light – It’s 30% lighter than acrylic but still very strong
  3. Special Hinges – It can bend back and forth many times without breaking
  4. Saves Money – Costs less than metal or other fancy plastics

This is why so many businesses choose our precision CNC machining service for their polypropylene parts!

How Exact Are Our Polypropylene Parts?

Our machines are super precise! Here’s how exact we can make your parts:

  • Standard precision: Within 0.005 inches (about as thick as a piece of paper)

We can also give your parts different finishes:

  • Just as it comes off the machine
  • Smooth with bead blasting
  • Special anti-static coating

All our work meets important standards like ISO 9001, ISO 13485, RoHS, and FDA rules for food and medical use.

What Makes Polypropylene Different from Other Plastics?

Polypropylene is special compared to other plastics we work with at Istar Machining:

  • Lighter than most plastics but still very tough

  • Can make living hinges (parts that bend thousands of times)
  • Less expensive than high-end plastics like PEEK or Ultem
  • Food-safe and approved for medical use

How Our Process Works

Getting your polypropylene parts made is easy:

  1. Send us your design – CAD files work best (like STEP or IGES)
  2. Get a quote – Usually within 24 hours
  3. Review and approve – We might suggest small changes to make it better

Frequently Asked Question

Yes! Polypropylene can melt if it gets too hot during cutting. We use special cutting speeds and don’t use coolant to keep your parts perfect.

Absolutely! We have special PP with UV protection added in. These parts won’t get brittle or fade when left in the sun.

PP handles chemicals better, but Delrin® doesn’t wear out as fast. Let us help you decide which is best for your project! [Contact our material experts](https://istarmachining.com/cnc-delrin/) for advice.

Yes! We can make parts in many colors. The color goes all through the material, not just on top, so it won’t scratch off.
