Our advanced CNC laser cutting technology allows us to precisely cut a diverse range of materials. Please note that capabilities can vary based on the specific grade and thickness of the material.
We utilize high-power fiber lasers for clean and efficient metal cutting:
Mild Steel: Up to 25mm / 1.0″ thick
Stainless Steel: Up to 20mm / 0.8″ thick
Carbon Steel: Up to 25mm / 1.0″ thick
Aluminum: Up to 16mm / 0.6″ thick
Galvanized Steel: Up to 6mm / 0.25″ thick
Brass: Up to 8mm / 0.3″ thick (Note: Reflectivity requires specific setup)
Copper: Up to 6mm / 0.25″ thick (Note: High reflectivity, requires appropriate fiber laser power and setup)
Titanium: Up to 5mm / 0.2″ thick
Other alloys may be possible upon request.
Our CO2 lasers excel at cutting various plastics:
Acrylic (PMMA, Perspex, Plexiglas): Up to 25mm / 1.0″ thick (Produces a polished edge)
ABS: Up to 10mm / 0.4″ thick (Requires good ventilation due to fumes)
PETG: Up to 12mm / 0.5″ thick
Delrin (POM / Acetal): Up to 20mm / 0.8″ thick (Cuts cleanly)
Nylon: Up to 10mm / 0.4″ thick (Can be prone to melting; results vary)
Polycarbonate (PC): Typically up to 3mm / 0.12″ thick (May discolor or have reduced edge quality, especially thicker sheets)
Important: We do not cut PVC (Vinyl) or materials containing chlorine due to the release of hazardous corrosive gas.
We can cut and engrave a variety of woods and composite materials:
Plywood (Birch, Poplar, etc.): Up to 20mm / 0.8″ thick (Cut quality can depend on internal glue lines)
MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard): Up to 25mm / 1.0″ thick (Cuts consistently)
Hardwoods (Oak, Maple, Walnut, etc.): Up to 15mm / 0.6″ thick (Some charring on the edge is typical, varies by wood type)
Softwoods (Pine, Cedar, etc.): Up to 20mm / 0.8″ thick (More prone to edge charring)
Cork: Up to 25mm / 1.0″ thick
Cardboard / Paperboard: Up to 10mm / 0.4″ thick
Our lasers can also process various other non-metallic materials:
Foam (EVA, Polystyrene, Polyurethane, etc.): Up to 50mm / 2.0″ thick (Please specify foam type)
Rubber (Neoprene, Silicone, etc.): Up to 12mm / 0.5″ thick (Please specify rubber type; fumes can be strong, requires good ventilation)
Leather (Natural & Synthetic): Up to 10mm / 0.4″ thick (Produces a clean, sealed edge)
Textiles / Fabrics (Felt, Cotton, Polyester, Nylon, etc.): Variable thickness (Laser cutting seals synthetic edges, preventing fraying)
Paper / Cardstock: Variable thickness (Allows for intricate cutouts)

At Istar Machining, we use the newest laser cutting systems to give you the best results possible.
We can cut most metals like steel, aluminum, and titanium. For non-metals, we can cut acrylic, wood, and some plastics. Some materials like PVC aren’t good for laser cutting because they release harmful gases.
It depends on the material. For steel, we can cut up to 25mm thick. Aluminum up to 15mm, and stainless steel up to 20mm.
